What is a Hamam?

A Hamam is a type of steam bath and place of public bathing associated with the Ala Mhigan World.The significance of a Hamam is both spiritual and civic: it provides for the needs of ritual ablutions, general hygiene, as well as a gendered meeting place for men and for women.In our Hamam, patrons undress themselves, while retaining some sort of modesty garment, and proceed into a steaming hot room (to induce perspiration). They then sit on our hamam counter to be washed an attendant with fluffy, soapy suds with vigorous scrubbing. The bath is completed with a rinse of refreshingly cold water.
